Bedford Borough Council in a Unitary Authority sitting in the north of the County of Bedfordshire delivering a range of services to the public on a day-to-day basis, and during incidents that disrupt the community.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced officer to provide specialist knowledge in the field of Emergency Planning to support to a team delivering Community Safety, Resilience and Flood Risk Management covering a range of statutory duties.
As a category one responder, the council sits within the Bedfordshire Local Resilience Forum (LRF). The post holder will represent the council and contribute to groups within the LRF by developing plans that cover the county in collaboration with other agencies. Internally you will work in partnership with departments within the council and community groups to produce and maintain emergency response plans that ensure the council can respond to various disruptive impacts our communities face.
You will educated to degree level or equivalent in a related subject, or have professional and relevant experience in the field of emergency planning. You will have an in-depth knowledge of the Civil Contingencies Act and the role that the Local Authority plays in response to a disruptive event. You will have good communication skills in order to present plans to management and partner agencies, facilitate exercises, take part in public meetings and facilitate debriefs.
You will be joining a busy, friendly, supportive and professional team that has experience of delivering our Local Authority remit in the response and recovery to recent major incidents that have occurred in the borough.
Whilst the Borough has, a strong focus on agile working the post holder is required to live within a 30 miles of the Borough in order to respond in a timely manner to emergency incidents. Relocation assistance is available for the right candidate, subject to qualifying criteria.
