Like the rest of the world, the Emergency Planning Society has been shocked and appalled by the unfolding horror in Ukraine.
Our thoughts go out to the victims and relatives of all those killed or wounded in this growing conflagration, and we express our solidarity with our counterparts in the Ukrainian resilience sector, the health and emergency services, and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
The EPS applauds all those in the UK and Republic of Ireland who are organising what help they can, such as the Fire Appliances donated by Fire Aid and the National Fire Chiefs Council, and the Scottish Emergency Rescue Association, as well as our members and colleagues in the British Red Cross.
The EPS encourages all members to donate and give time as they can, to any of those who are organising humanitarian aid, such as the British Red Cross, which has launched an appeal to help the Ukrainian Red Cross to provide food, medicine, clothing and shelter, as well as first aid training.
Donations can also be made via the Disasters Emergency Committee, an umbrella group for 15 of the UK’s leading aid charities, of which the amount raised will be doubled by the government up to a total of £20m.
