This seminar will be of particular interest to global security directors and senior managers, as well as human resources personnel who may be responsible for family support and employee reintegration in cases of kidnapping.

At the heart of every kidnap case is the hostage and his or her family. Seeking the hostage’s release is the undoubted priority of everyone concerned, but while steps are being taken to achieve that, the hostage’s family must endure days, weeks and sometimes years of anxiety, lack of information and unforeseen practical problems. Even when the hostage returns, other issues arise. The former hostage must go through a rehabilitation process, reintegrate into family life and into the workplace.

The theme of this year’s seminar is intended to focus minds on the issues around family support and hostage reintegration in a kidnap case. By hearing from various perspectives (that of the hostage, family, employer, mental health and legal experts, government and police) Hostage UK’s seminar is intended to raise awareness of the often less visible issues that underpin kidnap incidents and to promote best practice around family support and hostage reintegration.

The seminar will be chaired by Hostage UKs President Terry Waite CBE and Director Lara Symons. Speakers will include representatives from the Anti-Kidnap and Extortion Unit (NCA), the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Hostage Crisis Negotiation Unit of the Metropolitan Police, Control Risks, Hogan Lovells, the corporate sector and the mental health profession. There will also be an interview with a former hostage who was held captive in Syria. The full programme is attached.
